Thanks For Giving Blood Drive addressing critical need for holiday season

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood

Reno, NV – Ahead of Thanksgiving, Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and Vitalant are asking eligible donors to give thanks by giving the gift of life to those in need at the Thanks For Giving Blood Drive.

Vitalant blood mobiles will be in the west parking lot of the Atlantis Wednesday, November 22 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for anyone that would like to donate.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood – and the winter months bring several challenges for the blood supply. The number of people donating drops sharply during the holiday season. Winter weather and the flu and cold season also play a part in declining donor turnout.

“If not enough blood is available at any given moment, delays in patient care can have life-threatening consequences,” said Dr. Ralph Vassallo, Vitalant Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. “By making an appointment today and donating tomorrow, next week, even a couple of weeks from now, you become a lifeline for patients.”

Vitalant reports there is currently a critical need for all blood types, especially Type O blood, which is often needed for emergencies and lifesaving surgeries.

Donors can register online for the Thanks For Giving Blood Dive at vitalant.org or they can call 775-329-6451. Walk-ins will also be welcome.

All donors will receive a Vitalant t-shirt and a chance to win an Atlantis Staycation Package, which includes a one-night stay and a $100 dining certificate.
