Rudner, known for her elegant stage persona, understated delivery, and razor-sharp humor, has entertained audiences for decades. She began her incredible career as a Broadway dancer in productions such as Promises, Promises, Follies, and Mack & Mabel. In the late 1970s, Rudner transitioned into stand-up comedy, quickly rising through the ranks with her clever one-liners and unique female perspective, becoming a regular on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and earning her own HBO specials, including the acclaimed Born to Be Mild (1989) and Rita Rudner: Live From Las Vegas (2008).
Rudner has authored several bestselling books, including the essay collections Naked Beneath My Clothes and I Still Have It... I Just Can’t Remember Where I Put It, as well as the novels Tickled Pink and Turning the Tables. She co-wrote the screenplay for the 1992 British comedy-drama Peter’s Friends, directed by Kenneth Branagh, which won the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Screenplay.
In addition to her achievements on screen and page, Rudner has been a long-running headliner in Las Vegas since the early 2000s, where she has sold over two million tickets, making her one of the most successful comedians on the Strip. She has received the Las Vegas Comedy Legend Award and continues to tour nationally and internationally, maintaining her reputation as a beloved and enduring figure in comedy.
